Joy Bates

Joy has spent 22 years working in the international wine and hospitality industry. Completing her Post Graduate Degree in Oenology and Viticulture at Lincoln University (NZ), Joy furthered her successful wine career gaining experience in winemaking, export, Sales & Marketing and Public Relations in New Zealand, California, Chile and Europe.

Joining her partner in the Superyacht industry saw a change in career with Joy working as Chief Stewardess and Purser for several years with one of the industry’s most influential owners, where she oversaw the interior management of motor yachts such as MY Katana and MY Ronin.

Passionate about communicating her love of wine and hospitality, Joy joined The New Zealand School of Food & Wine, a private hospitality school, as one of the lead wine educators in teaching the internationally recognised WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) Levels 1, 2 and 3 courses. Committed to service and education of the next generation, Joy was then instrumental in writing, developing and delivering the PYA GUEST Interior programme for the school.

Joy has recently relocated to the UK and continues to combine her experience in both the yachting and wine industries as a PYA GUEST approved trainer.
